Wiesen Sunsplash 2000
Austria's annual open-air reggae jamboree is in its 15th year but with this year's unpredictable summer, there's likely to be a lot more splash than sun. However with the Wiesen stage's enormous dome, the skanking masses will be able to enjoy the likes of Alpha Blondy, Patrice and Misty in Roots on the first day. Saturday's line-up has a distinctly retro flavour with Sly & Robbie and the remains of Black Uhuru, Osibisa and headlining, the Wailers. Fairly predictable stuff, so be sure to check the weather forecast before making the 50km trek from Vienna.

Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band
Bruce Springsteen simply can't retire, as his millions of fans worldwide simply won't hear of it. Being a man of the people, America's foremost rocker isn't about to disappoint them. Combining the rebel spirit of Woodie Guthrie with the cars-and-crying-and-girls street cred of his native New Jersey, Springsteen eschewed the empty optimism of the American Dream and told tales of personal struggle and heroism of simple folks on classic songs ranging from 'Born to Run' and 'The River' to 'My Father's House' and 'Born in the U.S.A'. Americans simply can't get enough.

John Guttman
John Guttman was a Jewish immigrant photographer who left Nazi Germany for America in 1933. He took up residence in San Francisco and this exhibition, 'Culture Shock', chronicles his work a few years later at the height of the depression. There are over 100 black-and-white photographs of cars, jazz singers and musicians, and other everyday examples of American popular culture. At this time, Guttman also began to experiment with inventing and constructing images into a Surrealist adaptation, some whic is also on display.

Charlie Hunter
Jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter has been one of the more exciting young innovators of the past decade. His speciality is playing an eight-string guitar, which he'll certainly have on hand this evening for a celebration of the release of his newest Blue Note album, 'Charlie Hunter'. He'll also be performing with multiple percussionists to reflect the arrangements on the album.

The Shadow Box
Michel Christofer's moving Pullitzer-winning play 'The Shadow Box' is presented to the Madrid public, in English, by the Madrid Players. Three terminally ill patients all face their final battle. Joe, is an inarticulate but feeling husband and father; Brian, an overly-intellectual and unsuccessful bisexual writer, and Felicity, a prickly old lady who is kept going by the hoped-for, illusory return of a wayward daughter (who is really dead). How they and their loved ones cope is the subject of this drama, which offsets moments of great pathos with others of great comedy.
